BRAZIL - First-Time Vitem V Holders May Avoid Months-Long Appointment with Federal Police Registration Delays by Registering at the São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport

January 25, 2012 - Lengthy scheduling delays with the Federal Police in São Paulo have prompted the Brazilian immigration authorities to allow first-time Vitem V Visa holders to complete their registration with the Federal Police at the São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).  This registration can be completed either upon arrival at GRU or at a later time.  When registering at the GRU, foreign nationals must present their original passport, original entry card, original official visa application form (received once their visa is issued by the Brazilian consulate), and two 3x4 photographs.  Vitem V holders must also be prepared to pay the registration fee in Brazilian currency (BRL) at the airport.  Though no appointment for completing the registration at GRU is necessary, Vitem V holders should arrive fully prepared for the process, which has been reported to last up to three hours.  Upon completion of the registration process, foreign nationals will receive a registration stamp in their passports along with the SINCRE registration, which contains their foreigner registration ID number (RNE).
