February 8, 2012 - Peru is the seventh South American nation to join the Brazil/MERCOSUR agreement, joining Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile. As a result of Peru joining the MERCOSUR group, citizens of Peru will now be eligible to temporarily reside and work in Brazil for an initial period of two years. Peruvians must submit a specific set of documents during registration with the Federal Police, after which they will be issued a Work Book allowing them to legally work in Brazil for a period of two years. After this time period is completed, Peruvian citizens will qualify to become permanent residents in Brazil. Additional information regarding specific documentation and processes will be published as soon as it is available from the Brazilian immigration authorities.
